Coverage & Protection
Understand the rental vehicle protection products Metro offers and when they may be required.
Metro offers two protection products for your rental: Limited Damage Waiver (LDW), which covers the vehicle you rent from us, and Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI), which covers harm done to other people or their property other than the rental vehicle.
SLI does not cover damage to the Metro rental vehicle itself.
LDW limits your responsibility for damage to the rental vehicle to a small deductible. If you do not purchase LDW, you and/or your insurance company are responsible for damage to the vehicle.
If LDW is purchased, you are responsible only for the deductible, which is $1,000 for individual renters and $1,000 for corporate customers.
LDW costs $22 per day. It does not cover damage to the upper part of a truck box caused by driving under something too low for the vehicle, such as tree branches, drive-thru structures, or other low-clearance obstacles.
Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI), if purchased, serves as primary liability insurance to protect you against bodily injury claims and property damage claims made by other people up to $1,000,000.
SLI does not provide any coverage for damage done to the Metro rental truck. SLI costs $20 per day.
Metro requires that you provide coverage for the rental truck. Most consumer insurance policies do not cover the rental of a truck, though policies vary widely.
You should check with your insurance company before you rent. If your policy does not cover the Metro vehicle, we require LDW and strongly suggest SLI.
Yes. You may add additional drivers to your rental agreement when you pick up your vehicle.
All additional drivers must present a valid Alabama driver's license and be at least 21 years old. If the truck is driven by an unauthorized driver, any coverage provided to you could be voided.
No. At the time of rental, the renter must present a valid driver's license and a credit card with the renter's name imprinted on it.
Eligibility & Policies
Review Metro's basic renter qualifications and the key rules to know before pickup.
You must be at least 21 years old and have a valid Alabama driver's license.
You do not need a special driver's license or a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to rent from Metro.
Yes. All Metro trucks have automatic transmission, air conditioning, power steering, and power brakes.
Driving a truck is different from driving a car. Trucks have larger turning radiuses and stop more slowly, especially when loaded.
You also need to be careful around low clearances. Low-hanging branches, drive-thru windows, and parking decks can cause serious damage to the upper part of a truck box.
When you pick up your rental vehicle, it will be full of fuel. Please return it full for the next customer.
No. Metro is a local company, so we do not offer one-way rentals.
Yes. Trucks are rented on a daily, 24-hour basis beginning at your pickup time. Late fees apply if the truck is not returned on time.
Reservations & Payments

No. We take you at your word and will have your vehicle ready if you make a reservation with us.
No. Except during certain peak periods, we do not charge you until you actually pick up the vehicle.
Truck rentals require a deposit of $150 or the estimated cost of the rental, whichever is larger. We place a hold of $150 on your credit or debit card at the time of rental.
When you return the truck, all holds are released and the actual cost of the rental is charged, plus any applicable damages or additional expenses.
If you use a debit card, your bank may take up to two weeks to release the funds back to your card. Metro cannot be responsible for returned checks caused by debit card hold processing delays.
We accept Visa, American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and cash.
If your credit card is required to make a reservation, you may cancel up to 48 hours before your designated pickup time without penalty.
If you cancel within 48 hours of your pickup time, we will assess a one-day rental fee.
Call us and let us know as soon as possible. We can adjust the credit card hold to cover the additional expected charges.
If you do not contact us, we may need to begin recovery efforts, including seizing the truck and/or reporting it to the authorities as stolen.
